Responsibilities: 

  • The Election Committee Chairperson oversees the execution of the nomination and election process of NAINA.
  • The Election Committee Chairperson is solely responsible for the safekeeping of the ballot box, ballots, and voter registry.
  • The Election Committee members work together to preserve the integrity of the election process.
  • Reviews and amends election policies and procedures to follow current trends including in the instances of contested elections.
  • Informs the Governing Board of the candidate eligibility, nomination, and election policies and procedures and ensures that they are strictly followed.
  • Compiles a voter registry of all eligible voters of the given election.
  • Reviews nominations and notifies nominees if ineligibility to contest is obvious.
  • Compiles and counts both paper and online ballots.
  • Presents to the GB the names of the winners of the elections and selections 30 days prior to the installation date of the officers.
  • Assists Chapter Presidents to inform winners of the election/selection.
  • Assists the Executive Board with the installation of new officers.
  • To receive a voting ballot, the GB members should demonstrate 80 percent of attendance inclusive of three excused absences at regularly scheduled NAINA GB meetings and be in good standing with both NAINA and the local chapter

Elizabeth Sunil Sam is from Arizona Indian Nurses Association (AZINA). She  is serving as NAINA election chair for the 2025-2026 term.She was the immediate past president of AZINA and currently serves as the advisory chair. She is also one of the  founding leaders of AZINA and served as the Vice president in the 2021-2022 term. During her term as the President of AZINA, she  has been very active in collaborating  with minority nurses in Arizona  and serves as a steering committee member of Coalition of Asian American Nurses (CAAN) in Arizona. She is a Family Nurse practitioner with Internal medicine experience, works as a PCP @ Phoenix VA, Arizona. She is a compassionate nurse as well as a transformative leader with a great passion for her job and the community. Her passion is to guide and mentor international nurses , nursing students , NP students in advancing their careers. 

The Election Committee ensures a fair, transparent, and well-organized nomination and election process for NAINA. Led by the Election Committee Chairperson, the committee upholds the integrity of every election by reviewing and updating policies, verifying candidate eligibility, and maintaining accurate voter lists by ensuring that all voting participants meet organizational attendance and membership requirements. The committee communicates results to the Governing Board and chapter leaders and supports the installation of newly elected officers.
